“My Background” – Owner of Carolina Boat Brokerage, Clay Livingston:

I grew up on the Eastern Shore of Maryland with a true love for boating and fishing at a young age. I had my first boat in middle school and have owned many since. (Don't ask my wife how many). I graduated Barton College in Wilson, NC with BS Degree in Accounting and Business Administration. During my junior year with a fear of being stuck in an office for the rest of my life, I decided to pursue a career in the boat sales and got a part time job at a local boat dealership to learn the ropes. Job interviews consisted of talking with many boat manufactures and dealers and the consensus was to learn the business from the ground up.

Out of college I moved from NC to Pawleys Island, SC to work for Kay Crocker who owned 3 Grady White dealerships in NC and SC. There the groundwork was laid on how to learn on the floor boat sales, deal with customers, and everything else that makes a successful sale happen. After working in new boat sales for 6 years or so I decided to get out of the boating industry and get into the building material sales industry. My territory was coastal SC and I traveled all over the coastal SC. Something was missing though. Boats... I still had people coming to me either wanting to know what their boat was worth or wanting me to find them a nice used boat. During that time, I sold one of my boats I owned over the internet and a light switch went off. I had the contacts, a strong knowledge of boat sales and the internet. I was able to travel and sell boats at the same time. That is when I decided to start Carolina Boat Brokerage. 2018 now marks 11 years and hundreds and hundreds of boat sales later. With a supportive wife, 2 girls, 6 and 10, and plenty of nice boats, the time has flown by to say the least.
